Hospitality – A Growing Career Field with Endless Opportunities

A career in hospitality offers a wide range of options from hotel and restaurant management, and wedding planners, to travel guides, amusement parks, resorts, and travel-related services, just to name a few.  The options are endless with plenty of opportunities for advancement.

Maybe you like to travel and meet new people. You may consider yourself a person who can think outside the box and resolve issues quickly and efficiently. Perhaps you are organized and can manage multiple projects at once. These are strong indicators to consider exploring your options in a growing career field.

Still not sure if hospitality is for you? Then try another approach. What if you could take your passion for something such as travel, sports, outdoor activities, language, and culture and turn it into a career? Now that is something to think about.

Do your research.  Look into educational options, and find jobs that offer hands-on experience such as apprenticeship programs within an organization.  If you are in high school or starting on your college path, a summer internship at a resort, theme park, or convention center are great options. Consider a seasonal job as a tour guide, outdoor guide or instructor to gain real world experience. 

Some additional options to consider are taking an online course on public speaking, exploring how to perfect your ability to dress for success, and learning from industry professionals to build your skills and confidence.
